Cocoon Storyline

Meet Art, Ben and Joe. Three simple, aging senior citizens who like to swim in an unguarded swimming pool next door from the old folks home they live in. So one day when they go swimming, they feel energized and "ready to take on the world!" What they don't know is that the pool was recently bought by four alien Antereans incognito as humans. Art, Ben, Joe and their friends soon discover this and offer to help the Antereans return the cocoons back to Antarea and as a reward, they offer something magnificent.

The effects team revealed in interviews that the dolphins in the underwater scenes were animatronic, not live ones.
'Hume Cronyn' (qv) was a Golden Glove boxer and lost sight in one eye. In the scene where he hits the young orderly, without depth perception, he actually hit the young man and knocked him out.
'Ron Howard (I)' (qv)'s brother, mother and father all appear in the film.
'Hume Cronyn' (qv) and 'Jessica Tandy' (qv) playing the old married couple Joseph and Alma Finley had in real life also been married to each other for many years.
The tinted map Walter gives to Jack showing him the underwater location of their search for cocoons is actually an infra-red aerial photograph of Bay County, Florida (where Panama City Beach is located) printed on a transparency.
