Mo' Better Blues Storyline

Opens with Bleek as a child learning to play the trumpet, his friends want him to come out and play but mother insists he finish his lessons. Bleek grows into adulthood and forms his own band - The Bleek Gilliam Quartet. The story of Bleek's and Shadow's friendly rivalry on stage which spills into their professional relationship and threatens to tear apart the quartet.

Mo' Better Blues trivia

Usage of the film's original title: "A Love Supreme", was denied by Alice Coltrane, the widow of 'John Coltrane' (qv), the composer of the four-movement composition.
'Denzel Washington' (qv)'s trumpet sound is played by 'Terence Blanchard' (qv) and 'Branford Marsalis' (qv) plays the sax for 'Wesley Snipes' (qv). The music you hear in the movie when the actors are "playing" was performed by Branford's working band which was used for _"The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" (1992)_ (qv) when 'Jay Leno' (qv) took over.
'Denzel Washington' (qv) and 'Wesley Snipes' (qv) were trained to mimic the playing of the instruments they play in the film (trumpet and saxophone) by musicians 'Terence Blanchard' (qv) and 'Donald Harrison (I)' (qv). Washington later admitted that he was lucky if he could play three notes of a simple tune prior to filming and ended up being able to correctly mimic most of the songs performed in the film along with Snipes.
The film was dedicated to actor/comedian 'Robin Harris (I)' (qv) who died after the film was completed.
Although the scenes take place over ten years apart, the same kids ask the exact same question in both the opening and closing sequences.
